Women make up the majority of low-wage workers in service-based jobs such as Healthcare, Educational Instruction and Library, and Personal Care

Table shows among workers paid less than $19.69 in each occupation group, the share that are women or men. The first row in the table, "Share of Low-wage Workforce," shows the gender make-up of the total low-wage workforce. By comparing this row to the other rows, the user can identify if men or women are overrepresented in particular occupations. For example, 8 out of 10 (80.5%) workers paid low wages in Healthcare Support are women while women make up half (51.3%) of all low-wage workers. The occupation column is color-coded, with darker colors indicating that the occupation employs a larger share of the total low-wage workforce.
