Pedestrian fatality rates per 100,000 residents

New Mexico has led the nation for years in the highest rate of pedestrian deaths, according to data from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

Below are the states that have had the top-10 rates nationally in the country since 2012. In the last few years, New Mexico's rate has increased sharply above even the other top-10 states.
