Mapping LGBTQ+ Civil and Political Rights in Sub-Saharan Africa
Protection against discrimination and criminalization of same-sex sexual acts as of 2025
A world map color-coded to show how different countries treat LGBTQ+ people under the law. Some countries are shaded to show they have legal protections, like anti-discrimination laws or marriage equality. Others are marked to show that same-sex relationships are still criminalized. A few countries may have no clear information or mixed laws. The map is based on data from ILGA World and the Human Dignity Trust, and may not reflect the most recent legal changes.
