The Miami Marlins have seen the most attendance volatility over the past decade, from a peak of 46,440 in 2009 in their former home at Hard Rock Stadium to just 10,014 in 2018, the team’s first year of using turnstile count rather than number of tickets distributed, as is the industry norm. Overall, Major League Baseball attendance has declined each of the past four years, and the 4.1% drop from 2017 to 2018 left the league with its lowest total attendance since 2003. Seventeen of MLB’s 30 teams had fewer fans last year than the previous year, and only 10 have grown each of the past two seasons.
