Many in farm country were eligible for SNAP benefits

Before new work requirements and the Trump administration's efforts to root out what they allege is massive fraud, many in the country's 444 farm-dependent counties were eligible for SNAP. The darker a county appears, the higher percentage of SNAP-eligible residents.

The USDA classifies most counties based on their main economic activity. For instance, the USDA defines farming-dependent counties as those where 25% or more of the average annual earnings or 16% or more of jobs are in agriculture.
