Presidents nearly always lose House seats in midterms

Only twice since 1946 have presidents seen their own parties gain seats in the U.S. House of Representatives during midterm elections. Those came in 1998 and 2002, when the sitting presidents had job-approval ratings higher than 62%. Blue denotes Democratic presidents and Red denotes Republicans.
