U.S. land area needed for wind, solar, and transmission

According to NREL, 58K km² of U.S. land would be required to reach 100% Clean Electricity by 2035 with onshore wind, utility-scale solar, and all associated transmission rights-of-way. Below, this land area is compared to the land areas currently devoted to other uses.
