It is a horizontal bar graph where each bar represents the number of book challenges initiated in American schools, for academic years 2021-2022, 2022-2023. 2023-2024. The number of boon ban challenges in 2023-2024 has sharply risen to 10,046 and includes challenges for 4240 unique book titles.
Book challenges are initiated on the premise that certain books are unfit to exist in libraries or classrooms of educational institutions. Bans that are eventually rescinded are not tracked.
