This data was pulled from reports the Austin Police Department made in annual City of Austin budget documents. The data had several discrepancies, however. In some budget documents, past violent crime rates were reported as lower than previously reported. APD could not explain these discrepancies. KUT chose the most recently reported violent crime rates, which tended to be lower.
