The average number of people detained by immigration authorities has grown significantly since Bill Clinton's administration. It reached a record level of more than 42,000 in 2018 -- up from 6,785 in 1994.
Data through 2017 reflects daily averages by fiscal year. The 2018 data is from The Daily Beast's reporting regarding the number of migrants ICE said were being detained as of Sept. 15 of that year.
