Map: Amnesty International’s Digital Verification Corps examined around 300 videos and highlighted, for this page, more than 30 videos where law enforcement agencies used tear gas in problematic ways, confirming the location, date, and validity. The incidents are primarily linked with previous Amnesty International research and press releases and cover the protests from January 2021 to January 2023. The list of protest abuses is based on available compelling content showing the abuse of less lethal weapons. Amnesty International acknowledges that the list is not exhaustive and that in the same time period, there were protests and incidents that were not covered by the research and the map.
