Table 2: Simplified Illustration of Survey Lag Calculation
Table 2 uses fictitious salary, incumbent counts, and organizations to show how the lag is calculated. The entry level maximum salary is multiplied by the number of engineers in a survey class to produce a total. This total is divided by the number of engineers in the survey class to produce a weighted average salary. This weighted average salary is compared with the State of California's maximum Salary in order to calculate the State Salary Lag amount. This State Salary Lag is then converted into a percentage.
