Australia's gambling habits: a nation-wide economical issue

Australia is facing issues with its economic sustainability, it has less than 1% of the worlds population yet remains the country with the highest gambling rates. Per capita, Australian adults are the largest spenders on gambling in the world, they also have the highest gambling losses worldwide with $25 billion per year being spent and/or lost on specific gambling types. Horse racing, sports, pokies, casino table games and electronic gaming machines (EGMS) are the most problematic among Australians however the gambling outlets are endless. Although men are two to three times more likely to be problem gamblers, Australia's gendered population as a whole is contributing to the high rates of gambling seen nation wide and the question remains when this activity will be considered a true issue.
