This year there are no states and only two metro areas, Akron and Youngstown, in northeast Ohio, where people of any income can afford to buy a home. Before the pandemic 20 states were considered affordable as a whole.
No states are considered affordable for single-family home buyers in 2024, according to a National Association of Realtors analysis of April data based on affordability across income levels. Only two metro areas, Akron and Youngstown, both in northeast Ohio still had affordable status.
