Carjacking rates per 100,000 residents

In 2023, carjackings decreased by about 5% in the 10 cities where data was available. The reliability and availability of vehicular crime data varies because law enforcement agencies collect carjacking and auto theft data differently, or not at all. The District of Columbia is the only city that saw a rise in these incidents, experiencing a 98% increase in carjackings between 2022 and 2023.
