Minnesota's largest companies paid lower tax rates

In their latest filings, the largest companies in Minnesota paid lower effective tax rates than they did five years ago and most paid less than the 21% reduced rate set in late 2017 by former President Trump. That 21% rate represented a steep reduction from the 35% rate that existed before the 2017 overhaul.

*Represents the five most recently completed fiscal years for each company, not all have a Dec. 31 fiscal year.

Notes:
• Ecolab: 2016 tax rates reflect their spun-off energy
• Ameriprise: 2017 rate includes a 13% impact from TCJA
• Pentair: Restated rates for 2016. 2017 and 2018 for discontinued operations
• Donaldson: Adjusted tax rate in FY2018
