Analysis of a Vkontakte community group that tracks Wagner Group activities followed by thousands of self-proclaimed Wagner operatives indicates that many Wagner linked Vkontakte users also include information about their prior or current military service. A data sample collected from the Vkontakte group in November surfaced a little more than 300 Wagner linked users who indicated affiliation with a specific military unit. Further checks revealed that 256 out of 300 military unit affiliations reported corresponded to actual military units, the vast majority, 229, are located inside the Russian Federation. The majority of users in the verified data sample served in units located in Russia’s southern and western military districts.
