From 2015-2020, Mississippi reported to the federal government that it spent $418.4 million in federal TANF funds. About $36.5 million went to direct cash assistance and $115.4 million went to "Child Welfare Services." Excluding those expenditures, which do not show up in the state's public-facing accounting database called Transparency, Mississippi spent about $266 million in TANF from 2015-2020. Transparency only shows TANF expenditures of $220.7 million in those same years.
