Status of School Voucher Programs by State

As of April 2024, 11 states have enacted universal school voucher programs. Twenty-one other states offer some form of restricted school voucher. In 2023, often considered "the year of universal vouchers," 7 states passed universal programs and 10 states loosened eligibility restrictions. So far this year, Alabama and Georgia joined the growing number of states who offer universal vouchers, and other legislators across the country are aiming to introduce similar bills.
