Figure 10. Share of European immigrants employed in each sector, population aged 25-59, 4Q24 (%)
A stacked bar chart showing the proportion of European immigrants within the employed population in each sector, among people aged between 25 and 59, in the fourth quarter of 2024. Although European immigration as a whole accounts for 6.3 per cent of the total number of people in employment in Spain, in three sectors their share of the workforce exceeds 10 per cent: hospitality, domestic work and property. The European presence is particularly high in the latter sector: they account for 16 per cent of employment in the property sector, and within this sector, non-EU nationals have a similar share to that of Europeans from wealthy countries. At the other end of the spectrum, the sector where European workers have the lowest share is Public Administration, Defence and Social Security, which is sustained almost exclusively by immigrants with at least one Spanish parent, particularly those born in France or Switzerland.
