Gang violence causes 943 Chicago homicides since 2019

Gang violence was the most common motive identified in Chicago homicides during the past four years. In 32% of cases, or 880 deaths, police were unable to identify a motive.

Chart figures for 2019 provided directly by the CPD. Only includes 699 homicides recorded in 2022 CPD annual report. 2022 data is preliminary and will be revised in the 2023 report.
