Share of COVID-19 deaths in elder care facilities: Florida v. Other States

The share of cumulative COVID-19 deaths in Florida that can be linked to long-term care facilities has surged from 32 percent on May 1 to 44 percent on May 15. States like Pennsylvania and Massachusetts — which have some of the highest shares of elder care-related COVID deaths — saw only minor increases in the same period.

The figures have been compiled from the state agencies of each state. Not all states are reporting cases or deaths in long-term care facilities. From among those that are, not all states report the figure daily.
