Research on stop and frisk has not shown a causal effect between increasing the use of the practice and decreasing crime. During Mayor Jim Kenney's first term in 2019, when stops and frisks conducted by Philly police reached a record-high 465,000, there were 44% more homicides than in 2014 under former mayor Michael Nutter. Similarly, homicides are even higher today with stops at a nearly all-time low.
