Nationwide, fewer than 6 percent of people killed while bicycling were 15 or younger, 50 percent were between 16 and 54 years old, and 44 percent were 55 and older. This is a dramatic change from decades ago when younger people were the majority of bicyclist fatalities. In 1975 nearly 80 percent of bicyclist deaths were people under 20 years old.
