New accounting raises the benefits of New York's climate action. If the Scoping Plan's 2050 goals are met, the new accounting would help save billions more dollars each year in avoided climate damages.

Via New York's social cost of emissions (based on 2050 end-state emissions, calibrated to Scoping Plan 2021-2050 net present values in 2020$), using the latest sectoral emissions proportions for each pollutant in New York's June 2020 Decarbonization Pathways Report (High Technology Availability Pathway) and the December 2022 Scoping Plan (Accelerated Transition Away from Combustion). Scenarios were chosen because they equaled New York's climate target of an 85% gross emissions reduction by 2050 from 1990 levels.
