To replicate the published ranking, the weights that Bloomberg Businessweek applied to its four ranking metrics would have been very different from the stated weights. The analysis used a nonlinear optimization model to compute the effective weights which, when applied to the ‘reported scores of each school on the four metrics, replicate the published ranking.
