Oktoberfest beer is outrunning German paychecks

The number of one-liter beers (Maß) one month's gross pay buys at Oktoberfest's cheapest and most expensive tents

Notes: Beer prices are the minimum and maximum price of a one-liter Maß each year. Prices and earnings before 2002 were converted from Deutsche Marks to euros at the fixed rate of 1.95583 DM per euro. Pay is the average gross monthly earnings of full-time employees, before taxes and excluding bonuses and other special payments. Earnings cover the former West Germany through 2006 and all of Germany from 2007 onward; the switch to all-German wages lowers the average slightly from 2007. Destatis changed its earnings survey in 2022, so figures before and after that year are not perfectly comparable. Oktoberfest was cancelled in 2020 and 2021, so those years are not shown.
