This table ranks states by the total number of motor vehicle fatalities that occurred during winter months (January, February, March, and December) from 2019 through 2023, using the most recent finalized data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS). Totals reflect cumulative fatalities across five winter seasons. Rankings are based on raw counts and are not adjusted for population or vehicle miles traveled.
