Number of facilities and quantity of covered emissions in large-emitter trading systems across Canada
Canada contains nine different large-emitter trading markets. The largest is the Western Climate Initiative, which involves California and Quebec and covers more than 900 facilities and nearly 450 megatonnes of emissions. Alberta’s system is the second largest, with nearly 500 facilities and covering more than 150 megatonnes of emissions. In contrast, some LETS in Canada cover as few as 15 facilities and less than ten megatonnes of emissions.
