Mapping violence against local officials around the world: 2020-2026

From assassinations to attacks on homes and offices, local-level officials are often among the first targets of increasing violence. ACLED recorded 2,653 incidents across 88 countries and territories in 2025, as armed groups, criminal networks and political rivals attacked the most accessible level of government authority.
