Last school year, state data for public schools shows 24.9% of the state’s students were Black, but only 17.2% of their teachers were. Most teachers are white — 76.2% — though most students are not — just 45.1%. The state only tracks whether teachers were white or Black or neither. Other racial groups comprise about 30.1% of students but just 6.6% of teachers.
