Brent Crude Oil Price, January 2016

The global price for a barrel of Brent crude plunged 25 percent before rebounding to end the month down 7.3 percent. The wild swing occurred because investors can't tell if the drop in oil prices is primarily caused by global oversupply, or whether a drop in demand is the more significant factor that would suggest a global recession is underway.
