Share of Retirees Above 200% Federal Poverty Level by Education Attainment
Retirees fare better economically
with a pension regardless of
educational attainment, but the
largest improvement is among those
without bachelor's degrees.
For those with a high school education or less, 49% of those without a pension are below the 200% of the federal poverty level. Among similarly educated retirees, but with a pension, only 15% are below that level.
All groups are better off with a pension, but the largest gains are among people without a bachelor's degree or higher.
