More people are living in Metro Detroit, but growth is uneven

The urban core and outer suburban rings showed the greatest growth.

The population of the suburban area as a whole increased 0.73% from 2023 to 2024, but growth was not evenly spread. Outer-ring suburbs, including places like Troy city and Macomb township, gained almost 20,000 people, increasing by 1%. Inner-ring suburbs, like Southfield and Warren, gained almost 4,000 people, or 0.31%.
