Overview of data centers by federal state
For this study, IFA Berlin analyzed data from Data Center Map regarding a total of 573 data centers in Germany. Capacity figures in megawatts (MW) were available for 218 of these data centers; of these, 151 are currently in operation, while 67 are under construction or in the planning stage. The 151 existing facilities account for a combined capacity of 1,763.9 MW. The analysis by city covers Germany’s 20 largest cities. Due to missing capacity data for some of the data centers, the reported MW figures do not represent the total data center capacity in Germany. Data regarding facilities under construction or in planning reflect the status known at the time of the study; actual implementation and capacity for individual projects may differ. As certain large-scale projects exhibit particularly high capacity values, they can significantly influence the results at the federal state level. Survey period: August 2026.
