Ports Engineering Company is one of the only regular importers of chlorine to Sudan

This table summarises the chlorine shipments to Sudan recorded in the commercial data provided by the US-based investigative group C4ADS since the start of Sudan’s civil war in 2023. The HS shipping code “28011000” refers to chlorine.

Three chlorine shipments to Sudan were conducted by Chemtrade International Corporation (in yellow). Each consisted of several dozen barrels of chlorine gas. According to Chemtrade, the importer listed as "unknown" was in fact Ports Engineering Company. Ports Engineering Company is thus one of the only regular importers of chlorine to Sudan.

The French NGO Doctors Without Borders, which appears to be one of the main importers of this product, told The Observers team that the chlorine it imported to Sudan for purifying drinking water was only in powder or tablet forms. Neither of these forms can be used for military purpose.
