The Demographics Behind America's Deadliest Driving Behaviors
Data reflects 2024 fatality counts sourced directly from NHTSA's Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) Motor Vehicle Crash Data Querying and Reporting Tool. Alcohol-impaired driving fatalities reflect total persons killed in crashes where the highest driver blood alcohol concentration was recorded at .08 g/dL or higher. Speeding and distracted driving fatalities reflect total persons killed in crashes where those behaviors were identified as contributing factors. Unrestrained fatalities reflect drivers specifically, not all occupants, and are expressed as a share of total driver fatalities rather than all traffic fatalities. Male and female figures exclude a small number of records where sex was unknown.
