Durham County change in minority population

From 1990 to 2020 Durham County's population increased 79 percent, reaching almost 325,000 people as of the recent 2020 Census, making it the sixth largest county in the state. The map shows the change in the share of the minority population by block group, a Census designated area generally containing between 600 and 3,000 people.

While neighborhoods outside of downtown increased their share of minority population, downtown Durham neighborhoods generally saw declines.

The map uses 2010 block groups as the base area and population figures from 1990 and 2020 used here are adjusted for the changes in block group shape from 1990 to 2020.
