Less than 22 percent of Decorah's registered voters cast ballots during Tuesday's special city council election

Local election officials said a total of 1,373 ballots were cast during Tuesday's special election. Decorah is home to 6,306 registered voters according to the Winneshiek County Auditor's Office. About 78 percent of Decorah's registered voters did not participate in the Dec. 10 special election, according to the county auditor's data. With none of the three candidates exceeding 50 percent of the total vote, the race will now move to a run-off election between the two most popular candidates – Kent Klocke and Cody Whittle. That run-off will be held Jan. 7, 2025.
