Chicago police payouts, by year, compared to budget
Spent 2025 figures are through August, or eight months into 12-month budget and include settlements reached by the City Council this year. For all years, spent figures include amounts paid for settlements, verdicts or court-ordered/ approved legal fees. Excludes portions of such costs covered by insurance policies the city has purchased. Also excludes employment-related cases and fees paid to outside defense attorneys.
