U.S. States by Wedding Cost Index

Ranking is based on the Wedding Cost Index, a 0-100 composite score calculated from wedding-related cost metrics for the analyzed cities in each state. States with the same index share the same rank, with No. 50 being the lowest. To see the overall rank and the metrics considered, hover over each state. The ranking applies to this category only.

1. Wedding Cost Index is based on 19 wedding-cost-related metrics for each state, including venue pricing, catering, bar service, florals, decor, rentals, photography, videography, DJ and band costs, hair and makeup services, restaurant prices, alcohol costs, and taxi costs.
2. Cost Pressure: Indicates how expensive a market is for weddings.
3. Highest-Cost City: the city within that state’s analyzed city sample with the highest value for the relevant metric or benchmark.
4. Est. Reception Cost: Estimated core reception cost based on a six-hour venue rental, catering cost, and bar-service cost.
5. Est. Vendor Services Cost: Estimated cost of major non-reception vendors, including florals, décor, rentals, photography, videography, DJ, wedding band, hair, and makeup.
6. Est. Guest Weekend Cost: Estimated guest-facing cost based on one casual meal, half of a mid-range dinner for two, one beer, a quarter bottle of wine, and a roughly 3-mile taxi ride at the local rate.
