Hispanic or Latino Metro Demographic Opportunity Index

This table compares the 10 highest- and lowest-ranked metros on the Hispanic or Latino Opportunity Index among metros that met the study’s data-coverage requirements. The index combines the Hispanic or Latino share implied by each metro’s occupation mix, a pay-adjusted local wage benchmark, and population-adjusted job access. Higher scores indicate stronger relative performance under the model.

The Hispanic or Latino Opportunity Index combines a 35% modeled-share score, a 35% pay-adjusted wage score, and a 30% job-access score. A higher result indicates stronger relative modeled opportunity among eligible metros. Index results are points, not percentages.
Hispanic or Latino share implied by job mix estimates representation by applying national occupation shares to each metro’s local mix of selected film-production-related jobs. It is not the observed percentage of local workers who are Hispanic or Latino.
The pay-adjusted wage benchmark reflects the metro’s local-purchasing-power wage environment after applying the national Hispanic or Latino-to-White pay factor of 77.3%. It is a modeled benchmark, not what Hispanic or Latino workers actually earn in the metro.
Job access per one million residents is based on modeled Hispanic or Latino employment and metro population. It is an index input, not a BLS-published count of local Hispanic or Latino workers.
