Workers paid low wages are more likely to be uninsured and lack employer-sponsored health insurance coverage

The bars show the share of workers paid low wages (compared to all workers) covered by an employer-sponsored health insurance plan (either as the policy holder or as a dependent), covered by any form of health insurance, or uninsured.

The bar chart shows four categories of health insurance coverage: covered by employer-sponsored health insurance (as the policyholder), covered by employer-sponsored health insurance (as the policyholder or as a dependent), covered by any form of health insurance, and uninsured. The x-axis shows the four categories of health insurance coverage. The y-axis shows the percentage of workers with each type of health insurance. A lower percentage of low-wage workers have employer-sponsored health insurance (as the policy-holder) (31.9% compared to 54.2% of all workers) and any health insurance (83.6% compared to 91.2% of all workers). Conversely, a higher percentage of low-wage workers are uninsured (16.5% compared to 8.9% of all workers).
