Endangered or threatened status of the plains spotted skunk by state

Only two states where the plains spotted skunk lives classify and protect the species under state law. Kansas and Minnesota protect the eastern spotted skunk. Researchers once thought the plains spotted skunk was a subspecies of the eastern spotted skunk before genetic testing determined they were different.
