NIH Grant Recipients in Red and Purple States — Not Just Blue — Were Hit by Terminations

In the first month of cuts, Columbia University, in the blue state of New York, had more grants terminated than all red states combined. But among higher education institutions, recipients in states of all political stripes were affected.

Note: Higher education institutions include public, state-controlled, private, historically Black, and Hispanic-serving institutions. They do not include academic medical centers. See Methodology for how state politics were categorized.
