In December 2025, Saudi-led coalition airstrikes hit the Port of Mukalla in southern Yemen, destroying weapons and military vehicles that had allegedly been unloaded from UAE-linked ships intended for the STC separatists. Following the dissolution of the UAE-backed STC in early January 2026, Yemeni government forces regained control of the eastern and southern provinces. The Houthis have maintained their grip on the western provinces, including the capital, Sanaa, since 2014.
