Rural areas have been slower to recover from the recession

Employment grew faster in metro areas than non-metro areas as the U.S. recovered from the Great Recession of 2008-09, suggesting the federal government's response may have overlooked key rural challenges. The chart shows each group's annual employment level compared to 2007.
