Wars get more unpopular the longer they go on

The net level of support for the Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq wars in their first 3,000 days

The day reflects the final date of a poll's fielding. The start date of each war is as follows: March 2, 1965, for Vietnam; Oct. 7, 2001, for Afghanistan; and March 20, 2003 for Iraq.

Net support is calculated by subtracting the share of respondents who said it was "a mistake" to send troops to Vietnam, Afghanistan, or Iraq from the share that said it was "not a mistake."
