The mortality-to-incidence ratio (MIR) is calculated by dividing the number of cancer deaths by the number of newly diagnosed cases in a given year. The lower the MIR, the better the outcomes. MIR of 1 indicates that as many people died from cancer as were newly diagnosed with it in a given year.
