Even without sea level rise, the gap between fall and winter tides is widening at Kiptopeke

The chart shows the monthly average sea level, in inches, from 1960 to the present with the linear trend removed. The large red and blue dots show the September and Jan-February average values for each year, and the smaller dotted lines show averages for the periods from 1960-1979, 1980-1999, and 2000-2025.

The data are presented as values relative to the mean sea level at Kiptopeke between 1983 and 2001, with the linear trend removed following Yang and Chen, Geophysical Research Letters, 2025. Missing data were infilled based on the Sewell's Point tide gauge.
